Pep Guardiola responds to claims that Arsenal have ‘spoiled’ their chance to win the Premier League title

Manchester City’s fifth league title in six years was officially confirmed on Saturday after Mikel Arteta’s Gunners side lost to Nottingham Forest.

Considering the extent of Arsenal’s lead after the World Cup and the fact that they amassed an astonishing 50 points at the start of the season, Arteta’s side have come under fire.

Sky Sports expert Jamie Carragher says Arsenal ‘ruined everything’ after dropping points at West Ham, Southampton and Forest in the latter stages of the campaign.

They took just nine points from a possible 24 and lost twice to City as hopes of winning a first league title since 2004 faded.

Guardiola, however, believes there is a tendency to underestimate teams that don’t quite cross the line and wants the Gunners to receive the respect they deserve for such a promising season.

“It’s the trend to underestimate. They’re winners,” he said.
