During Tuesday’s broadcast of “Your World” on Fox News Channel, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) said there were no concerns for the welfare of those crossing the border until that they end up in New York, Washington, DC, Chicago and Martha’s Vineyard and “Nobody listened to border communities for years. And now that it’s happening in their own backyard, they’re talking about it.
Cuellar said: “Well, certainly one of the things we see [is] that when something happens in your own backyard, it becomes a problem in itself. What we’re looking for is that there’s theater involved here. He caught the eye. That’s what we’re talking about right now. But I’m more interested in practical solutions. And one of the practical solutions is that we need to empower our men and women of the Homeland, Border Patrol, ICE, CBP, to enforce the repercussions. That is, you treat people with respect, and then ultimately if they don’t qualify, you have to kick them out. And we don’t show anyone expelled.
Host Neil Cavuto then said, “But I don’t hear the rage – I know you’re trying to deal with this. You led a bipartisan effort…to try to get something done. But I don’t remember any worries or worries about the well-being of those coming from the border until those coming from that border ended up in those towns and villages.
Cuellar replied, “Yes, I mean, without a doubt, it’s the truth. I mean, for many years, as you know, over the years I’ve talked about the border saying, hey, it’s good to listen to immigration activists, but who listens to men and the women in green? Who listens to border communities? And this humanitarian aid [with] FEMA, I actually started this program in 2014, and then in 2017 we reformed it. That money was there and it took me years, years to get there. And now it’s happened in someone else’s garden, and all of a sudden, oh, we’re going to add more money. We will add money. No one has listened to border communities for years. And now that it’s happening in their own backyard, they’re talking about it.
