Pennsylvania girl donates laptops to homeless shelter Family Service Association of Bucks County

OCEAN CITY, New Jersey (WPVI) — An 8-year-old girl from Bucks County, Pennsylvania is making a big difference to people in her community through an act of kindness.

When Teddy Tendler’s Hebrew school, Congregation Kol Emet in Yardley, gave her a good deed, the girl immediately thought of her favorite toy: her laptop.

“Technology, doing good things for people. Put them together and I feel like donating computers would do that,” Teddy said.

Even on a beach vacation in Ocean City, New Jersey, Teddy bragged about his love of math and computers.

“Math Prodigy (game-based learning platform) is my favorite thing. Like I love it so much I even do it when I’m home,” she said.

She decided to incorporate that passion into her mitzvah, which “does a good deed for someone, like let’s say help their brother, help their sister,” Teddy explained.

With the help of her parents, she decided to donate laptops to the Family Service Association of Bucks County, which runs an emergency homeless shelter.

“We have five, plus a printer, plus paper, plus ink, plus headphones. And then we also had something to donate cash,” said Jared Tendler, Teddy’s father.

They raised over $1,700. Laptops are for homeless children and adults.

“Whether it’s for school. Whether it’s for education. Whether it’s just playing a game and being a kid. It can make a huge difference,” said Anne Marie Richards, Volunteer and development for Family Service.

When Teddy’s parents took her to the shelter to drop off the laptops, they took her through to see a world different from her own. Teddy says she can’t get this experience out of her mind.

“My heart was like so warm and it was so exciting that it was falling into place,” she said.

She has already made a new donation to the Family Service Association’s back-to-school campaign. After the success of his laptop, his heart to give continues to grow.
