A convicted sex offender has been arrested after authorities received more than two dozen tips from the public identifying him as a man who peered into people’s homes.
The alleged voyeur – identified as Kevin Michael Ayers, 36, of Hamilton, Ohio – was caught looking out the windows of the homes of residents of Liberty Township, a Cincinnati suburb about 28 miles north of the town.
“Detectives have received more than 25 tips from the public identifying Mr. Ayers, as well as information from other law enforcement agencies who know him from similar incidents, read a statement from the county sheriff’s office. by Butler that was posted on social media.
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones tweeted Sept. 6 about surveillance footage of the suspected prowler looking into someone’s home Aug. 22 at around 1:23 a.m.
Jones also reported that the suspect was filmed doing the same thing again on September 5 at 10:50 p.m. Jones did not say whether the suspect was caught on the same camera in each of these instances.
But on September 8, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office announced that the suspect had been arrested and charged with one count of criminal trespassing, which is a fourth-degree misdemeanor in the state of Ohio. .
Ayers is a registered sex offender who has previous convictions for voyeurism, according to authorities.
“Thanks to the public’s help, we were able to identify the suspect quickly. It could have escalated into something much more serious,” Sheriff Richard K. Jones said after Ayers’ arrest.
