“I’ll never forget that because he was so respectful to Paul, and I really thought that was awesome,” she said. “He said, ‘Respect must be paid’ and he shook Paul’s hand, and he went all the way to do it, just to pay homage to Paul. Paul is really this actor’s actor.”

She had some ‘hesitations’ at first about their age differences as he was 28 years her senior, but admitted he was ‘so wonderful’ and a ‘really lovely man’ that their minds were too close to see the figures.

“He’s just this lover…and he loved people. He loved life. He loved food, you know, he loved everything,” Dee Dee recalled. “That’s how I fell in love with him, that’s how he caught me because it’s like, how can you not love someone who loves so much? It was just that guy . Paul really touched me and changed my life.”

She recalled the Italian cookbook they created together, “Pinot, Pasta and Parties,” which incorporated her mother’s “old fashioned” recipes and family traditions from Naples, Italy.

“Italians really love life,” said Dee Dee. “Paul taught me to enjoy life, to live well and to eat well, because Paul ate well. He wanted the best of the best.”

Sorvino was “happy” to see the movie industry return after film productions and theater performances were halted amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It felt like the movie industry was collapsing…and nobody was going to the movies anymore,” she said. “It upset him, because he was a big Hollywood guy.”

Dee Dee said that after watching “Top Gun: Maverick” with his former “The Firm” co-star Tom Cruise, Sorvino was “so happy because he saw that the movie industry is back “.

Dee Dee noted, “That’s the thing with Paul, it’s like a lot of these actors, they just care about their careers and the money they make. No, Paul cares about the mission. He cares about the Hollywood mission. He cares about America’s vision and he’s a patriot.”

Their shared love for their country and the industry was not lost on Dee Dee, who added that her late husband rarely thought of himself and was always concerned about others.

“He was so happy that a patriotic film was coming out, that America was back, that the industry was back and that everyone could be together,” she said. “The theater was full, and he was all smiles, and it was awesome. He was absolutely thrilled. He loved it. I only bring it up because it was kind of…it was the last memory we have. seen together.”
