The Los Angeles Clippers are only hours away from their biggest game of the season, a must-see Play-In tournament against the New Orleans Pelicans. They just received a potential knockout blow with the news that seven-time All-Star Paul George has tested positive for COVID-19.
The loss of “PG-13” cannot be overstated enough. George is at or near the top of the team standings in nearly every notable statistical category.
George has been limited to 31 games this season due to an elbow injury but still beat the Clippers in points (24.3), assists (5.7), steals (2.2) and minutes per game (34.7), while also ranking second in rebounds per game (6.9). Without George on the court, Los Angeles will likely have to rely heavily on newcomer Norman Powell and veteran point guard Reggie Jackson, among others.
The survivor of Friday’s Clippers-Pelicans showdown will face the top-seeded Phoenix Suns in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
