Passenger says fight on MIA Frontier Airlines flight video was racially motivated

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida – It was an argument that turned heated at Miami International Airport as passengers disembarked from a Frontier Airlines flight from Philadelphia.

The woman, who recorded the incident on her cell phone, said a passenger got angry because he said the person in front of them was taking too long to retrieve their bags from the upper bins.

She said that was when the first passenger used a racial insult against the second passenger and then hit him.

The flight from Philadelphia landed around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night.

Kiera Pierre Louis, who goes by her hip hop name Milli Miami, and recorded the incident on her cell phone said, “I couldn’t believe what was going on.”

She described what she saw and what she filmed: “You can see the white man above the black passenger beating him between the seats. The flight attendant got involved. The white man’s wife got involved. His son, I believe, and his son’s girlfriend – everyone was just involved.

Several people, including a Frontier flight attendant, attempted to intervene.

Eventually, several people managed to remove the passenger from the man as several others shouted for the two to separate.

After the first passenger left, the second passenger started chasing him, and then in the video you can see that he changes his mind.

Pierre Louis said the first passenger, who she said sparked the fight, was allowed to leave the plane, while the second man was asked to stay behind.

Pierre Louis said she believed the way it was handled ultimately had racial overtones.

“Racism, of course,” said Pierre Louis. “The black passenger had to wait on the plane, when he didn’t even start, and the police, as we got off the plane, walked right past the person, the white man in done all insider. “

Miami-Dade Police told Local 10 News the black passenger was not detained, but instead chose to stay so they could file a police report. In the end, they said, he decided not to press charges and the passenger who allegedly started the fight was able to leave.

A Frontier Airlines statement sent to Local 10 News referred any detailed questions about the incident to the Miami-Dade Police Department.

“Yesterday, as a Philadelphia-Miami flight landed at MIA, a physical altercation broke out between the passengers who were in the back of the plane. The flight crew requested assistance from law enforcement. All the passengers involved were told to stay on the plane, but some ignored the flight crew’s instructions. Ultimately, local law enforcement got involved. “
