In a major boost for the country’s armed forces, the Defense Acquisition Board, which met under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday, approved the purchase of platforms and military equipment worth Rs 8357 crore including air defense fire control radar and GSAT-7B satellite. To discuss the way forward for the business and the defense procurement industry, CNBC-TV18 spoke with Amit Mahajan, technical and R&D director at Paras Defence.

In a major boost for the country’s armed forces, the Defense Acquisition Board, which met under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday, approved the purchase of platforms and military equipment worth Rs 8357 crore including air defense fire control radar and GSAT-7B satellite. The procurement proposals received a “necessity acceptance”, the ministry said in a statement.

Approved proposals included “the acquisition of a night sight (image intensifier), GS 4X4 light vehicles, an air defense fire control radar (light) and a GSAT-7B satellite”, he indicated. The acquisition of such equipment and systems will improve the operational readiness of the armed forces by providing better visibility, increased mobility, improved communication and increased ability to detect enemy aircraft, he said.
