Forget the Barbiecore pink, because next year everything will be red.
After much anticipation, Pantone recently announced the color of the year for 2023: Viva Magenta.
“An unconventional hue for an unconventional time,” the brand said in a Dec. 1 Instagram post. “Vibrating with dynamism and vigour, a shade rooted in nature from the red family showing a new signal of strength.”
The electrifying hue, a kind of big sister to the popular Barbie pink trend, is all about embracing its boldness in the new year.
“Viva Magenta is writing a new narrative,” shared the Pantone Institute. “Courageous and fearless, a thrilling color whose exuberance promotes optimism and joy. Powerful and uplifting, it’s a lively red that encourages experimentation and unrestrained self-expression.”
Magenta was also chosen for its hybrid qualities as it blends the old with the new. After all, it not only has historical value, but it is also a window into the future.
