GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Palestinians held a funeral Friday for a militant who died of injuries sustained in three days of fighting between Israel and Gazan militias last weekend.
His death brought the number of Palestinians killed in the clashes to 49, including 17 children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
The body of Anas Inshasi, 22, was draped in the black and white flag of the Army of Islam, a small extremist sect. Funeral attendees said he was injured by an Israeli air raid when he fired shells at Israel.
Israel launched a series of airstrikes last Friday against what it called an imminent threat from Islamic Jihad after Israeli forces launched an attack in the occupied West Bank. Islamic Jihad began firing rockets at Israel after the initial wave of incursions. The violence ended on Sunday with an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire.
