Over a dozen arrested at Israel protest at Ohio State

Police attempt to disperse protests Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Ohio State University.

More than a dozen were arrested Thursday as Columbus became the latest site of student protests against Israel as hundreds of State University students, faculty and members of the Arab community from Ohio gathered and set up tents in front of the student union.

Shortly before 11 p.m., protesters began leaving the South Oval, after nearly six hours of singing, praying and building tents. Police lined College Road South and 12th Avenue, while protest organizers encouraged people to go home. An hour earlier, dozens of police officers, including troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, surrounded what were at one point hundreds of protesters, attempting to disperse the peaceful demonstration.

Columbus Dispatch reporters at the scene saw police arrest more than a dozen people.
