“Our immigration system has failed”

San Diego County District 5 Supervisor Jim Desmond bluntly declared that the U.S. immigration system “has failed” amid the crippling migrant crisis.

Speaking to local reporters, Desmond, whose city saw an influx of 2,000 migrants this week alone, said San Diego does not have the resources to handle this crisis and said officials should stop the influx immediately.

“We are not the Department of Immigration. We don’t have those kinds of resources,” he said. “The best remedy would be, when we are at capacity, to stop letting people in for a while. We need a better system. Our immigration system has failed. She is broken. This is not the way to manage an immigration system.

According to 10News, many migrants have been dropped off at San Diego transit centers over the past week.

“At the Iris Transit Center, migrants discover the United States for the first time. The spokesperson said 292 migrants were dropped off there by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Sunday morning alone,” the outlet noted. “Local migrant shelters say they are at capacity, which has triggered the releases onto the streets in the county. »

In another article on X, Desmond chastised the Biden administration for its lack of action.

“2,000 migrants from around the world were landed in San Diego County in four days,” he wrote. “The Biden administration is rolling out the red carpet for this chaos, with little regard for our region’s resources. National and local politicians offer legal protection and free taxpayer-funded benefits, which only encourages this situation to continue. We cannot have a country without borders!

El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells agreed with Desmond.

“San Diego County has seen 2,000 migrants land in the area over the past four days, and speaking with Border Patrol officials, this is just the beginning. This is a disaster,” he wrote on X. “Every emergency room is at capacity in SD County. Our homeless shelters are full. Resources are limited. The Biden administration allowed this to happen. People need to pay attention and vote to fix this! »

In various cities across the United States, the migrant crisis has reached emergency levels. In Massachusetts, Democratic Governor Maura Healey even activated the National Guard to support the crisis.

“We are grateful to the brave men and women of the National Guard who stepped up to help us ensure that the needs of every family housed in an emergency shelter were met,” Healey wrote.

Boston’s Logan Airport has also recently resorted to families sleeping on cots throughout the airport while waiting to enter the state’s housing system. In New York, Mayor Eric Adams even stressed that the migrant crisis would change the city forever.

“Let me tell you something, New Yorker: never in my life have I had a problem that I couldn’t see an end to. I don’t see an end to this. I don’t see an end to this. This problem will destroy New York City, destroy New York City. We get 10,000 migrants a month,” Adams said recently.
