On Friday’s show of Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) said America has done the same with its dependence on China as the Europe has done with its reliance on Russia, and “we need to selectively decouple our economy from China before it’s too late.
Gallagher reacted to CIA Director William Burns saying China has been a ‘silent partner’ with Russia’s aggression in Ukraine stating: ‘Director Burns is right, except it’s not a silent partnership . Prior to the invasion of Ukraine, Xi and Putin signed a 5,000-word declaration proclaiming boundless partnership. So Putin simply becomes Xi’s sadistic sidekick in this new Cold War they have launched against the West. And it will only become more dependent on China as it experiences setbacks in Ukraine. So the lesson for us is at least twofold: first, we have to recognize who we are dealing with, two brutal dictators who want to destroy the West.
He continued: “And second, we need to wean ourselves off our reliance on cheap Chinese manufacturing. You know, Dana, we’ve racked our brains all through the Ukraine crisis wondering how the Europeans could have hurt themselves.[ves] in a position where they are so dependent on Russia for basic energy resources. Well, we did the same thing, except with different merchandise, in terms of our reliance on China. So if we want to have a chance of winning this competition, we need to selectively decouple our economy from China before it’s too late.
