Opinion | Just when you thought politics couldn’t go any further

And of course, if Republicans want to get rid of him, they’ll need an alternative. What’s your pick of the week for the next unnamed candidate Trump?

Bret: No one I love has a snowball chance in hell. Ideally, it would be someone like Rob Portman, who is retiring, or Charlie Baker, who is from Massachusetts, or Mitch Daniels, who left politics a long time ago to do something truly precious with his life. There is also Ben Sasse, whom I really like. But I just don’t see him getting the nomination.

That leaves me with a choice between Nikki Haley, Josh Hawley, maybe Ron DeSantis. In this lineup, Haley is the easy favorite. What do you think of her?

Gail: Well, it depends on the moment since she seems to change her political positions every 15 minutes. Gail said slyly.

DeSantis is horrible on issues like vaccine delivery, and you have to admit, not all governors plan to fly state flags halfway for Rush Limbaugh. Hawley has been a disaster throughout the capital riot crisis, and I notice he’s the only Republican to vote against every Biden cabinet candidate so far.

I loved it when Sasse called Hawley’s behavior “really stupid” so he should be my favorite. Although I know he’s not exactly a favorite.

Speaking of national political names, what do you think of Andrew Cuomo’s latest issues?

Bret: You mean his administration deliberately underestimated the number of Covid deaths in nursing homes and then tried to cover it up for fear of a federal investigation? Or that he later threatened to “destroy” a state legislator who dared to criticize him?

All I can say is, it’s a scandal that couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
