Open source intelligence combats misinformation about Russia’s war on Ukraine

It is often said that truth is the first casualty of any war. Propaganda, misinformation and outright lies have always been reliable tactics to win hearts and minds.

But in a world filled with millions of cameras connected to smartphones, street corners, dashboards and satellites, it’s increasingly possible for anyone online to find out the real story. This is called open source intelligence.

And our science correspondent, Miles O’Brien, met some of the people who were using it to dispel the fog of war in Ukraine.
