Ongoing effort to unify Bay Area’s 27 transit operators as commuters return to work

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Along with transit agencies hoping to attract commuters after the coronavirus pandemic, a campaign is underway.

The goal of this campaign? To bring the fragmented network of 27 Bay Area transit operators to work together to coordinate fares, schedules and service to improve the passenger experience.

The plan includes creating a single payment system and simplifying transfers through coordinated connections.

This has been attempted many times in the past, but a new state Senate bill this time will set a timeline with deadlines.
