Olympian skier Jaelin Kauf’s mother surprises her in teary-eyed reunion after winning silver – NBC Chicago

Team USA Olympic skier Jaelin Kauf was greeted with a big surprise on Thursday morning, and it brought a few tears to the surface.

During the TODAY Show, Kauf was talking to her mother on live video when her mother cut off mid-sentence to run into the plaza and surprise the new silver medalist.

“Hello, Jae,” her mother said. “Oh, you’re on the TODAY Show, I’m so excited. I can’t wait for you to come home on Friday. You know what…”

The two shared a big hug, holding each other for a moment while laughing, crying and showing off Kauf’s new Olympic medal.

After Kauf, 25, clinched silver in the women’s moguls final on Saturday, the first person she called was her mother, telling NBC her medal-winning experience wouldn’t have been possible without his support system at home.

“It was like my whole family. There was a big lookout party at my dad’s bar, but my mom managed to sneak in with the phone, so I talked with her and my brother for a minute,” Kauf said.

Although originally from Wyoming, Kauf graduated from DeVry University and was a two-time Olympian with Team USA.
