Oliver Skipp will sign a new contract with Tottenham with the midfielder finally ready for a return from injury

The 21-year-old’s current contract expires in 2024 but he has been offered an extension and improved terms with the club he has been with since he was five years old.

After spending last season on loan at Norwich, Skipp has established himself as a Spurs regular and his absence with a groin injury since January has left head coach Antonio Conte frustrated.

The Italian said on Friday that the midfielder was “very, very close” to returning to training and is expected to join the squad by the end of the week.

Skipp has not played since the 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on January 23, after being told to rest by specialists due to a difficult pelvic problem.

His return would be a boost for Conte ahead of the run-in, as Spurs battle with Arsenal to finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League.

Skipp had established himself in the team under Conte before his injury and his return would give the Italian another option in midfield.

In his absence, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg formed a decent partnership with Rodrigo Bentancur in a side that won three consecutive Premier League games.
