Olaf Scholz agreed with Zelensky that Western-supplied weapons should not be used by Ukraine in attacks on Russian territory

The head of government of Germany, Olaf Schölzannounced that it has reached a agreement with the ukrainian president Volodimir Zelensky for what IThe weapons that are supplied by the Western allies are not used in attacks on Russian territory.

“There is a consensus on this point,” the German official celebrated in an interview with the media Bild am Sonntag after, in recent weeks, the allies announced important arms shipments to Ukraine that will take place in the coming months to face the war. Thus, heavy tanks and longer-range rockets will be destined for the kyiv defense and not to the attack of the enemy territory.

Among the weapons that will land in the country between the end of March and the beginning of April, the GLSDB rockets or small diameter bombs fired from the ground, which are capable of hitting a target 150 kilometers away, which is enough to threaten Russian positions beyond the front line of combat.

Along with this, Ukraine has celebrated with great euphoria the shipment of the much-requested Leopard 2 tankswhich -initially- Germany refused to send and evaded giving authorization for other countries to do so.

However, after weeks of discussion, Scholz announced that 14 of these tanks from his own inventory will be destined for the defense of Ukraine, to which more than a dozen countries joined. Finland was one of them along with Poland that, in addition to the 14 that it will send of this model, it will also provide kyiv with 60 main battle tanks PT-91.

USA also made an important announcement then confirming that it will supply 31 of the powerful M1 Abrams tanks as part of their military aid packages, even though Joe Biden I have mentioned in the past that they are too difficult for Ukrainian troops to operate and maintain.

Given this, Moscow expressed its disagreement and the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskovstated that it is “a pretty disastrous plan” and an “absurd” idea. To this was added the statement of this Thursday by the president Vladimir Putin who said that “German tanks threaten us again”in a direct comparison between the war he started and the Nazism.

However, Scholz attacked these sayings and declared in the interview: “Your words are a series of absurd historical comparisons that he uses to justify his attack on Ukraine.” He also added that “nothing justifies this war.”

Before concluding his dialogue with Bild, the German official remarked that “together with our allies, we are supplying Ukraine with combat vehicles so that it can defend itself.” And he concluded: “We have carefully weighed each arms delivery in close coordination with our allies, starting with the United States. This common approach prevents an escalation of the war”.

Portugal was the last country to join this initiative to send combat tanks Leopard 2 to Ukraine. “At this moment we are working to be able to obtain the conditions to be able to deliver some of our tanks,” the Prime Minister announced this Saturday. Antonio Costa adding: “I know how many tanks there will be but that will be announced at the right time.”

The announcement was made in the framework of a joint logistics operation with Germany and will include the repair of some of the vehicles in order to join the plans of other countries to begin shipments towards the end of March.

Lisbon is in communication with Berlin to “allow a parts supply operation with a view to concluding the recovery of some of the cars that were not operational,” Costa continued.

Likewise, the Prime Minister stressed that the supply of Portugal goes above this shipment of war material since the country assists Ukraine with humanitarian aid and hosts many of his refugees.
