Oktoberfest kicks off at Arsenal

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Oktoberfest is back and celebrating 25 years at Redstone Arsenal. The festival has everything you need for family fun this weekend, including food, rides and lots of beer.

“We usually come here and like to have the schnitzel, the bratwurst and a bit of a drink,” said longtime Oktoberfest attendee Rich Hoffman. “We listen to the polka dance and have a great time. We are celebrating another chance to be able to come here and have an Oktoberfest.

On Friday, the new Craft Biergarten, authentic German cuisine, shows, carnival rides and games were back at MWR Activity Field at the corner of Patton and Aerobee roads.

In 2019, around 15,000 people attended Oktoberfest and organizers said they expect many visitors this year. Brently Bullion of the Rocket City Poppers made popcorn before the doors opened.

“We are expecting a very large crowd,” Bullion said. “We popped popcorn for the last hour and a half straight.”

Oktoberfest is a cash-only event.

  • Parking and entrance: $15
  • Unlimited parking, entry and journeys: $25
  • Beer garden: Extra charge

Stephanie Stone, MWR Marketing Manager, said Oktoberfest is a great opportunity for the community.

“I think it has a big impact on the community because they can come to Redstone Arsenal and see what MWR is doing,” Stone said. “We support soldiers, civilians and contractors, so now the community can come and help us support these people.”

Oktoberfest will be open Saturday from noon to midnight and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
