Oil release didn’t bring prices down, but Biden did everything he could to bring gas prices down

In Wednesday’s “CNN Newsroom,” White House senior infrastructure implementation adviser and coordinator Mitch Landrieu said President Joe Biden had “done everything in his power” to bring down gas prices, even though the release of oil from the strategic petroleum reserve has not worked to bring down prices.

Landrieu said:[T]he president has already signed into law a massive bill called the Infrastructure Act, which is designed to help rebuild supply chains, fix rails, fix roads, fix air, and fix water. On top of that, he released proceeds from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to drive down gas prices. And then, yes, he’s actually asking Congress to pass legislation that’s going to help do that.

Co-host Victor Blackwell chimed in to say, “But they sure haven’t brought gas prices down.”

Landrieu replied: “But, Victor, you know that the president himself does not control the price of gasoline. You asked if there was anything in his power he could do. And he did everything in his power, including….

Blackwell cut to say, “Certainly he doesn’t control the price of gas, but the president said releasing the strategic reserve would bring the price of gas down, and all we’ve seen since then is a series of records. .”

Landrieu replied, “Well, that’s clearly not the only factor in reducing gas. But you asked what he could do and he did what he could do. It’s also asking Congress to cut costs for American citizens for child care, for prescription drugs, for insulin, to make sure we have appropriations so we can manufacture things.
