Off-duty NYPD officer fights for his life after being shot during robbery

A five-year-old New York police officer is fighting for his life after he was shot Saturday night during a robbery, officials said.
The off-duty veteran officer attempted to buy a car on Ruby Street in Brooklyn after details of the purchase were staged on social media, police said.
When the officer arrived, the suspect immediately displayed a firearm and announced the theft, police said.
Shots were exchanged, the policeman was hit and taken to hospital where he is in critical condition.
Mayor Eric Adams said the officer was on a simple run and was shot. Adams said they would catch whoever was responsible for the attack.
