OAS Security Council approves investigation of Almagro

MIAMI (AP) — The Security Council of the Organization of American States overwhelmingly approved an external investigation of the organization’s secretary general on alleged ethical misconduct over an intimate relationship with one of his subordinates.

Immediately after the vote of the member countries of the OAS, the Secretary General himself, Luis Almagro, publicly admitted the sentimental relationship with the woman, and said that from the beginning he offered to collaborate with transparency.

Thirty member countries, including the United States, Mexico and Uruguay, voted in favor of the external investigation. Two abstained—Belize and Haiti—and one was absent: Grenada.
