Oakland Residents Express Frustration Over PG&E Restoration Updates

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) — After several days without electricity, PG&E customers shared their frustration over what they said was inaccurate information from the utility. Neighbors interviewed by ABC7 have since regained their electricity.

Thousands of people across the Bay Area were without power Thursday.

A large tree fell, knocking out power in the Macy Cornell neighborhood in the Oakland Hills. Two days later, they were still without electricity.

“(Wednesday) evening, around 5:24 p.m., we received phone calls saying that your power was restored. And it was not restored. And I started calling the neighbors, checking. And there were about 10 to 20 who had no power,” Cornell said.

Then again on Thursday afternoon she received another alert from PG&E saying the power was back. But Cornell says they were still without power late Thursday afternoon.

Terrence Marley, who lives in a different part of Oakland, says his neighborhood has lost power in each of the major storms this year. This has been particularly difficult because he is caring for his mother who uses a respirator and has to refrigerate her medication.

“I asked when are we going to send a team to assess the situation? They don’t know. It’s always, ‘I don’t know.’ That’s the hardest part,” Marley said.

Power was finally restored to his home on Thursday evening.

PG&E says the Bay Area has been hit by unprecedented storms, making cleanup difficult. Another reason a few residents may still be in the dark is their home’s location on the racetrack.

“It can just be where they are on the circuit. So they can actually be fed in different places. It’s on a case-by-case basis,” said PG spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian.&E.

She say PG&E is aware of the issues with alerts with incorrect information. Sarkissian says they are “working on improvements”.
