NYPD officer on leave attacked, gun stolen in fight at Hell’s Kitchen restaurant

HELL’S KITCHEN, Manhattan (WABC) – An off-duty NYPD officer was punched and had his gun stolen during a fight at a Hell’s Kitchen restaurant early Friday, police said .

Authorities say the 42-year-old officer was with a male friend when they got into an argument with another group inside Hudson’s Market, a grocery store at 755 9th Avenue, around 4:30 a.m.

A scuffle ensued and one of the suspects punched the officer and grabbed his gun.

“It started, two guys were arguing with the lady, and the lady and two guys, they had a problem,” a store employee said. “I think the lady was mad about something, she was screaming really loud. But then, later on, I saw a few guys, and then the guys literally came over to that side, and then they started hitting the two other guys.”

The four men fled with the officer’s weapon, which is believed to be a personal weapon and not his service weapon.

They left the scene in a Dodge Charger, police said, heading south on Ninth Avenue.

The officer was taken to St Luke’s Hospital with a bruised jaw.
