NYCFC dismisses Union to advance to final

New York City FC reached the MLS grand finale by defeating the Philadelphia Union 2-1 in the Eastern Conference final at Subaru Park on Sunday.

This clash was presented on TVA Sports 2.

The Big Apple team will play in the MLS Cup against the Portland Timbers, who had defeated Real Salt Lake the day before, in the Western final. The ultimate playoff game will take place in Portland next Saturday and will be broadcast on TVA Sports and TVA Sports direct from 3pm.

Against the Union, the NYCFC took the lead in 88e minute of play. Forward Talles Magno Bacelar Martins moved the strings 30 minutes after entering the game.

The Brazilian took advantage of a good effort from Gudmundur Thorarinsson, who stole the ball from a rival and then redirected it to the top of the opposing net.

The winners had previously leveled the score thanks to a success from Maximiliano Moralez in the 65e. The Argentina international saw a comeback land on his right foot. He did not miss such an opportunity and his powerful strike left no chance for goalkeeper Matt Freese.

The Union had played luck to register for the score two minutes before the first of the winners. Wanting to thwart a cross, NYCFC defenseman Alexander Callens stepped on the ball, but the precious object had ended its course in the net of teammate Sean Johnson.

The New York club will play in the first final in its history, having played in MLS since the 2015 campaign. Having qualified for the playoffs in five of its first six seasons on the Garber Circuit, the NYCFC had never crossed the Association quarter-finals stage before 2021.
