NRL great Justin Hodges threatens to whip Ben Hannant before their fight, video

NRL great Justin Hodges has threatened to ‘whip’ former State of Origin teammate Ben Hannant into not showing up at a pre-fight press conference.

The two retired rugby league stars are set to face off in the ring under Liam Wilson and Matias Rueda’s card in Brisbane on Wednesday.

But when the media gathered on Monday to hear from all the fighters before their bouts, Hodges’ opponent was nowhere to be found.

And the former Australian 13-Test center didn’t mince words when asked about Hannant’s absence.

“It’s hugely disappointing, especially after all the nonsense he’s talked about,” Hodges, 40, said.

“I don’t know where he is. I hope George (Rose of No Limit Boxing) can find him.

“He’s probably on the M1 on the Gold Coast sunbathing, the big guy.

“But it’s hugely disappointing. We’ve been training for four weeks, hard, and to come here and he’s not here is hugely disappointing.

“If he doesn’t show up, I’m going to have to drive over there and whip him outside the ring.

“Hopefully he shows up at the weigh-in tomorrow, I’ll definitely be there.”

Hodges has won three of his four professional fights, losing one by knockout to fellow rugby league hardnut Darcy Lussick in 2019.

He would be considered the favorite to win his fight against Hannant, if it continues.

And if not, Hodges is determined to get in the ring anyway.

He’s even set to fight Paul Gallen – his former State of Origin opponent who boasts a professional boxing record of 12-2-1 and has fought some of Australia’s top heavyweights.

Gallen lost to Kris Terzievski in his last fight in May and is yet to lock down his next fight.

“George (Rose) might have to call Gal. Gal is always ready, so we’ll see what happens,” Hodges said.
