Ovak Djokovic returns to action at the Dubai Tennis Championships on Monday, his first tournament since being expelled from Australia last month.
The world No. 1 saw his visa canceled on the eve of the first Grand Slam of the year on his vaccination status against Covid-19.
Djokovic has since confirmed that he intends to stay unvaccinated, even if it means missing the biggest tournaments.
He plays joker Lorenzo Musetti in Dubai, the second time the pair have met on court. They faced off in the fourth round of French Open last year, with Djokovic coming from two sets behind to lead 6-7 6-7 6-1 6-0 4-0 when the Italian teenager retired with injury .
The Serb revealed that he has received a largely warm welcome from the other players since his arrival.
He said: “Most of the players I met all received me well. I can’t say the same thing happened in Australia. Everything was a bit weird there.
Andy Murray is also in action in Dubai after receiving a wildcard in the main draw. He faces Australian Christopher O’Connell in the round of 16.
