Novak Djokovic out of Indian Wells, Miami Open

World number 2 Novak Djokovic was notoriously unable to play at this year’s Australian Open and was eventually kicked out of that country due to his unwillingness to receive any of the safe and available COVID-19 vaccines. However, he learned last week that he may be able to participate in Roland-Garros as France lifts restrictions linked to the coronavirus and his vaccination card.

As ESPN’s D’Arcy Maine explained on Tuesday, Djokovic was announced in the ongoing BNP Paribas Open draw in Indian Wells, although it was unclear whether he could enter the United States due to his vaccination status. On Wednesday, the 34-year-old took to social media to announce he will not be playing at Indian Wells or the Miami Open which is due to start later this month.
