Harry Kane scored his 200th league goal as Tottenham look to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League season at newly-promoted Nottingham Forest this afternoon. Despite seven points from their opening three games, comprehensive performances have so far eluded Antonio Conte’s Spurs, with Kane bailing them out of trouble against Chelsea and Wolves.
And he scored after just six minutes against the run of play in the East Midlands, firing a shot past Dean Henderson and into the bottom corner after an incisive breakaway. With Spurs carrying a strong threat on the counter, Forest were by far the better side in the first half, playing great football and creating plenty of chances, roared by a passionate crowd.
Record signing Morgan Gibbs-White makes his full Forest debut today causing plenty of trouble alongside Brennan Johnson and Jesse Lingard. Follow the second half with Standard Sport’s LIVE blog below, including expert analysis from Dan Kilpatrick at the City Ground!
63 minutes: It’s end to end again now at the City Ground with less than half an hour to go, Forest earning a corner and causing panic with a ball to the back post which is tackled by Cook and Yates.
Spurs get back to it quickly, however, with the otherwise silent Kulusevski preparing to bend a shot into the far corner but missing the target.
60 minutes: McKenna tries to get physical with the crafty Kane and joins Worrall in getting his name taken.
Son is then played and Forest desperately defends, the South Korean firing a forehand into Henderson’s throat.
The England keeper is keeping his team in this game for now.
58 mins: Seeking to capitalize on that reprieve, Forest tears apart and Williams closes in.
Forestry skipper Worrall in the book for a cynical trip on Son as Tottenham tried to counter.
KANE PENALTY RECORDED
56 mins: Kane’s penalty is brilliantly saved by Henderson, who dives low to his right and clears the ball. It was a nice height for him, but still.
And he is delighted, pumping his fist furiously and celebrating with his cap!
A huge, huge reprieve for Forest.
How much could that cost Spurs?
53 minutes: Steve Cook inexplicably pushes Perisic’s cross away from Kane with his hand and referee Craig Pawson doesn’t hesitate to point to the spot.
VAR is checking if this is a red card for the veteran Forest centre-back, who surely denied Kane a goalscoring opportunity.
52 mins: A warning for Forest as Kane takes up a challenge and provides a fine back-post cross for Perisic, who can’t keep his shot and doesn’t bother Henderson.
50 mins: Great luck for Forest will beg!
They stack the numbers forward at the start of this second half, with Gibbs-White’s slicked pass picking out Yates, who heads a header just wide of the far post.
Lloris was beaten there, if it had been framed.
The crowd is suddenly back in there.
48 mins: More or less the same at the start of the second half, with a heavy challenge from Sanchez on Toffolo causing a brief uproar.
Kane pulls the trigger from the edge of the box on the other end, but his effort is well blocked.
