“No plans” to send Joe Biden to kyiv

The White House said on Thursday there were no plans to send President Joe Biden to Ukraine, although the president again expressed his willingness to go.

Biden was asked by reporters Thursday during a trip to North Carolina if he was prepared to travel to Ukraine to signal his support for the country during the Russian invasion.

“Are you ready to go?” he asked reporters.

When reporters responded by asking the president if he was ready to travel to Ukraine, Biden replied, “Yeah.”

But Jacqui Heinrich, Fox News’ official White House reporter mentioned that there were “no plans” to send Biden to Kyiv, Ukraine “yet”.

Politico reported Wednesday that the United States is considering sending a senior official to Ukraine to symbolize its support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Asked about the report, Biden said he and his team are “making this decision now.”

Biden has previously expressed a willingness to travel to Ukraine, but complained that “they” (presumably his staff and security details) won’t allow him to do so.

“Quite frankly, part of my disappointment is that I can’t see it firsthand like I have elsewhere,” Biden said during his visit to Poland in March. “They won’t let me, that’s understandable; I guess he would cross the border – and take a look at what is happening in Ukraine.
