No Music Festival in Strasbourg on June 21 due to health measures – RT in French

Strasbourg city hall has decided not to organize a Fête de la Musique this year. The sanitary measures imposing the sanitary pass on gatherings of more than 1,000 people as well as the curfew will have got the better of the event.

The city of Strasbourg announced on June 11 the cancellation of the events it had scheduled for the Music Day, faced with the constraints of the health protocol provided by the Ministry of Culture.

“Following the sending by the government of the health and safety protocol relating to the 2021 edition of the Fête de la Musique, the City of Strasbourg is unfortunately forced to cancel the events scheduled for this year (strolls, concerts of music schools , floating scene …) ”, indicated the ecological municipality in a press release.

Jeanne Barseghian, mayor of Strasbourg, also clarified her position in the same press release: “Even if we understand that the health situation is still fragile, we regret this late announcement. We have a particular thought for amateur projects who counted on this edition to share their passion and allow us to rediscover the unique atmosphere of music festivals. ”

The reason for this announcement at the last moment is linked to the establishment of the health protocol by the Ministry of Culture, communicated only a handful of days before the event.

The Ministry of Culture published on June 7 the health protocol of the Fête de la Musique which provides for seated assistance for shows, prohibits concerts in the street, bars and restaurants and makes the health pass compulsory in places hosting more than 1,000 people.

Other cities have taken the same decision as Strasbourg. In the Haut-Rhin, it was Munster who decided to cancel the Fête de la Musique, while Martine Aubry announced on June 6 to do the same in Lille, depriving the capital of Flanders of this event for the second consecutive year. . Martine Aubry however approved the reason for such a strict protocol at the microphone of BFM TV by wishing “not to keep elements that can be avoided and which would lead to a resurgence of the pandemic”.
