No Man’s Sky’s Latest Major Update Overhauls Its Massive Space Freighters

No Man’s Sky has a new major free update released today, developer Hello Games announced. The new Endurance update focuses on the game’s freighters and frigates, the large ships in the game that players can use as a mobile base of operations and to complete missions. Endurance is the 20th major update for the game, which was originally released in 2016.

Improvements with this major update include a new ship deck that provides instant access to warping and teleporting to navigate the game world. Players can also build bigger freighters with exterior sections, as well as new plant growing and crafting features, and ships can now scan planets from space. New expedition and combat-focused missions offer more objective-based tasks to complete.

Asteroids have also seen improvements.

In addition to the ships themselves, Endurance also includes improvements to the larger universe. Asteroids now appear more varied and can spawn in vast asteroid fields containing thousands of objects, and there are new black holes and nebulae to be seen across the universe.

The release of Endurance comes only a few months after No Man’s SkyThe latest major update from, Outlaws, which included a variety of crime-themed activities like smuggling, bounty missions, planetary raids, and wearable cloaks. Between this and the dozen or so other updates the game has received since launch, the game is almost unrecognizable from what was released six years ago.

No Man’s Sky is currently available on a variety of platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. A Switch release is slated for October, and it’s also expected to come to Mac and iPad later this year.
