The BJP has appointed former Maharashtra energy minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule as the state party chairman. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra MP CM Devendra Fadnavis praised the party for rewarding sincere workers.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule has been congratulated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis on being appointed chairman of the party’s state unit .

At a congratulatory event in Nagpur, Gadkari said the BJP was a party of “karyakartas” (workers) who could reach the top through hard work, and was not a unit where the minister’s son in chief became chief minister, etc.

He added that it was not a crime to be the child of a leader but that one had to demonstrate qualities to obtain a position in the party. Praising Bawankule for his work as the state’s energy minister in Devendra Fadnavis’ previous dispensation, Gadkari said the new head of the state unit was not disappointed when he was not had not obtained a ticket to participate in the 2019 elections to the Assembly.

He continued to work for the party and was therefore rewarded, Gadkari added. The Union Minister said he wanted Bawankule to get more promotions in the party, but added in a lighter vein that this did not mean he wanted Bawankule to be CM.

“In that case, the media will twist my statement and say that I am giving a message to Fadnavis. I want Fadnavis to be CM but if he progresses nationally then Bawankule might also have an opportunity,” Gadkari said.

Fadnavis praised Bawankule for his hard work and said he would prove to be a very effective state unit leader.

“It is the specialty of the BJP that an ordinary worker can achieve the highest positions through hard work and dedication,” the deputy chief minister said.
He also said that the new government would work to get the state back on track after the mismanagement of the Maha Vikas Aghadi.
