Just a day after winning the Money in the Bank briefcase, Nikki ASH cashed in to become a WWE World Champion for the first time.
The Scottish follows in the footsteps of compatriot Drew McIntyre as she chases 14-time world champion Charlotte Flair on RAW.
Flair had only won the title against Rhea Ripley the day before at Money in the Bank itself. However, after a rematch with Ripley for the RAW main event, the woman more commonly known as Nikki Cross took her chance to cash, hit her crossbody off the top chord and secured the title.
The 32-year-old had been turned on and off the television with no real direction earlier this year. Once her team disbanded with Alexa Bliss and Bliss headed in a more paranormal direction, Cross was an afterthought.
That’s when Nikki ASH was born – almost a superhero. Cross says she pitched the idea to WWE and put a lot of time and effort into making it work.
“I believe in the idea. I put so much energy and time into it. I tried so hard. Nikki said, “I spent so much time on this, building this idea. So for me, a thousand percent, I knew it was going to work.
“I knew how much I believed in it and I knew my energy and my enthusiasm. I knew I was going to be able to explain it. What I’m trying to say is that there were no nerves because of how much I believed in the idea.
Nikki ASH in 2016 and became known within the NXT SAnitY group. Cross was part of this group alongside her husband Killian Dain (Big Damo) – who replaced Sawyer Fulton – Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe.
Cross is the only surviving member of this stable and fans have fallen in love with her unstable gadget, however, she has grown since arriving on the main roster in 2018.
Now that she’s the RAW Women’s Champion and SummerSlam is looming, Cross will likely have an angry Charlotte Flair to deal with and potentially a returning Becky Lynch.
