Sky Sports commentator Nigel Pearson has died aged 52.

Pearson has commentated as part of Sky Sports’ Darts coverage for over 15 years since joining in 2006. Fellow commentator Rod Studd wrote on Twitter: “Most horrific and desperately sad news.

“I have many fond memories of time spent in Pancho’s company. My love and condolences to Nigel’s family and friends.”

Professional Darts Corporation chief executive Matt Porter said in a statement: “We are all deeply saddened to learn that Nigel has passed away and send our condolences to all who knew him.

“Nigel was a hugely popular figure in darts and across a range of sports and highly respected in the media for his unique style. He will be missed by all of us.”

Pearson was also an experienced speedway presenter and commentator, working with British Speedway as a press officer, and was a huge fan of West Bromwich Albion Football Club.
