Nigel Farage has drink thrown over him

Nigel Farage had a drink thrown at him as he left a pub as he launched his personal election campaign in Clacton.

The liquid landed on his suit jacket as he walked towards the Reform UK party bus.

The woman who appeared to throw the drink was heckled by other Reform UK supporters who had gathered outside.

Essex Police said a 25-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault.

During the arrest, law enforcement said a man was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

“The two individuals remain in police custody for questioning,” said a police spokesperson.

A similar incident occurred in 2019, as a man threw a milkshake at Mr Farage during a country bath.

Other candidates announced so far in Clacton are: Matthew Bensilum, Liberal Democrat; Natasha Osben, Green Party; Jovan Owusu-Nepaul, Labor Party; Giles Watling, Conservative Party.

The BBC News website will publish a full list of candidates in Clacton after applications close on Friday.
