Nick Kyrgios missed clay season to stay in Australia after Australian Open

Nick Kyrgios has retired from the Cinch Championships at Queen’s Club.

The 26-year-old was due to return to the grass after staying home after the Australian Open and skipping clay altogether.

But Kyrgios, who has only played two tournaments since February 2020, suffers from a neck problem, writing on Instagram: “My tennis family, I’m sorry my return was postponed because I have an uncomfortable pain in my stomach. neck at present.

“I’m trying to get the upper hand, but since I can’t serve 100%, I will only come back when I feel I can have a full impact on the tour. I will keep in touch.”

Kyrgios will now focus on his recovery in time for Wimbledon, where he reached the quarter-finals in 2014.

The Australian was replaced in the Queen’s draw by veteran Spain Feliciano Lopez, who won the singles and doubles titles the last time the event was held in 2019, teaming up with Andy Murray for emotional success.
