Niantic Acknowledges Community Feedback on New Avatar System

Recently we published an article titled Pokémon GO’s new Avatar update is (unfortunately) live, covering the new Avatars system that Niantic launched on April 17, 2024 in Pokémon GO, despite negative beta feedback and a large number visual issues and bugs.

The response to this article has been unprecedented, with hundreds of favorable reader comments on our site. X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook accounts, our Discord server, as well as in private messages and emails.

We would like to thank our readers for this support, for reading our articles and for sticking with us throughout the years. We are honored to have you all and we are honored to write for you.

What is happening in the background

Although online support for our reviews was strong, we remained unsure whether Niantic would actually hear our feedback on issues with this feature, or simply ignore the feedback. Luckily, a company representative reached out for advice, and we’re happy to report that the following is now true:

  • Niantic requested, collected, and considered feedback from our readers and fellow content creators, influencers, and online community members (Redditors, Discord members, etc.)
  • A high-ranking Niantic employee reached out to us and other content creators and shared the following statement:

We’re sending all your feedback to the product team and people who worked on the Avatar system. We take this seriously and really appreciate you sharing your personal opinions and those of your followers.

  • Some visual issues have already been fixed, most of the fixed issues are those that result in NSFW images in the game.
  • Niantic hasn’t made any promises about where the Avatar system will go in the future, or whether it will roll back, but they have received all of our feedback (including all of yours) and have confirmed that they are taking it seriously.

Because we’re sending out more than 10 key points about what we don’t like about the new system, we won’t go into detail with our entire feedback – that would make this article unnecessarily long and tiring.

Suffice it to say this: keep writing, keep sending feedback to Niantic and Niantic Support, keep commenting on Reddit and other media platforms. We hope to have our say and, in the end, perhaps everyone’s efforts will pay off.

PS If by any chance Mr. John Hanke is reading this article, please inquire about this feature maintainer. This requires work.

Disclaimer

  • This post is not endorsed by Niantic, it is not their public opinion, and it is certainly not an official position on the future of the Avatar system.
  • This article is simply to report on the events of the last two days and lift the curtain slightly for our readers. Many of our readers think their comments were in vain, and we want to assure them that this is not the case.
