Jamille Matt tormented his former teammates by scoring one goal and scoring the other as Forest Green approached the top of Sky Bet League Two with a 2-0 victory at Newport.
The Rovers’ top scorer equalized in a 1-1 draw between the teams in December and allowed Josh Davison to draw his side in front two minutes before the break on the occasion.
It was the second goal in as many games for Davison, who was on loan from Charlton in January, after scoring the winner in the 4-3 win over Oldham.
After taking the lead on the notoriously poor Rodney Parade pitch, Forest Green was able to play with even more confidence.
Home goalkeeper Nick Townsend then hacked Matt into his own penalty area to concede the penalty shortly after the hour mark.
Matt stepped in to take the kick and didn’t make a mistake scoring his 11th goal of the season since arriving from the county.
For the local side, it was another miserable day as they remained seventh. They have now won only once in their last 12 league outings and have collected eight of 36 possible points.
