Newcastle United are just an absolute monster of a football club, Dan Ashworth proclaims

Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth has lavished praise on his new club and thinks it is an absolute monster club and a fantastic place to work. The Magpies signed the former technical director from Brighton earlier this month, although he resigned in February.

While Newcastle United were in talks with Brighton and Hove Albion over a deal for Dan Ashworth in February, the Magpies failed to move things forward. Indeed, the two sides could not reach an agreement over compensation for Ashworth to sign for the St James’ Park side and so he resigned as Brighton’s technical director the same month. But with the 51-year-old placed on gardening leave until the end of the season, it meant Newcastle couldn’t budge.

However, the club eventually reached an agreement and brought Ashworth in just in time for the summer transfer window, which eased the pressure on Eddie Howe and the rest of the board. He has seen the former Brighton chief very happy with his move to St James Park and he feels he has joined an “absolute monster of a football club. Not only that, Ashworth added that the passion and intensity the fans are showing is incredible and makes it a “fantastic place to come and work”.

“I’ve been in football for a long time and came here in my opponents hat with West Bromwich Albion and Brighton. Every time you come here you can’t help but notice the passion and enthusiasm of the fans, the atmosphere on the pitch. It’s just an absolute monster of a football club. A fantastic place to come and work,” Ashworth said, Athletic reported.

“It was the atmosphere and the passion, from the away supporters too when they came to West Brom and Brighton. The noise and enthusiasm for the game is just amazing. It (St James’ Park) was one of my favorite places to come. You knew you were always in for a tough game, but the crowd made it. Very few places have this intensity. Coming from an opponent, this is a special place to come. It was a really appealing thing to me.
