Will Young did a Test-best 82 to put New Zealand in a strong position at Edgbaston

New Zealand put themselves in a strong position in the second test against England thanks to half centuries of Devon Conway and Will Young.

After England were eliminated for 303, with Dan Lawrence left stranded on 81 steps, Conway (80) and Young (82) both took advantage of good fortune to help the Black Caps close on 229-3, just 74.

Fresh out of his double ton on his Lord’s debut, Conway survived on the 22nd when the third referee ruled his advantage over Zak Crawley had been grounded, much to England’s dismay, while Young was dropped. to slip with only seven to its name and the pair went on share a stand of 122 for the second wicket.

Stuart Broad (2-22) broke the partnership with the second of his two wickets, taking it to 520 in the cricket test and above Courtney Walsh in sixth place on the all-time list.

Young fell to what turned out to be Lawrence’s last ball of the day but, after his third stand of 92 with Ross Taylor (46th), New Zealand remain in a leadership position heading into day three.
