New York hotel doorman helps thwart attacker who allegedly punched 9-year-old girl: ‘I’m not a hero’

Neil Johnson, a doorman at the Plaza Hotel in New York, is being hailed a hero after arresting a man who randomly attacked a 9-year-old girl.

“First of all, I’m not a hero,” Johnson said on “Fox & Friends First” Wednesday. “There was a situation, and I introduced myself.”

Johnson told host Carley Shimkus he heard a man screaming, which was not initially a concern. He then heard a woman scream.

He ran towards the woman and found her with a child and a pram followed quickly by a man who was gaining ground on them. She told Johnson the man assaulted her daughter.

Raheem Ramsarran, the 27-year-old suspect, allegedly punched the girl without provocation. Johnson said it was clear Ramsarran was mentally ill.

“I turned to the guy and started yelling at him not to move,” Johnson said.

Johnson and another man stayed with Ramsarran until police arrived and took him into custody.

He said Ramsarran remained calm when approached by police which prevented the situation from escalating further.

Johnson’s encounter with the striker came as New York’s crime rate in February 2022 jumped 58% overall from February 2021.

The New York Police Department reported that all major categories of index crimes saw an increase.

“New Yorkers deserve better,” said NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell.

Despite Mayor Eric Adams’ deployment of additional police officers, crime on the New York City subway is reported to have skyrocketed by more than 200% in the week following the new crackdown efforts.

Fortunately, Johnson said, Ramsarran had no weapon. Johnson, however, said he never feared for his own safety.

“When you hear a woman screaming, and when you see the visual of a woman with a pram and a little girl running away screaming at a guy, you just have to, you have to help him,” he said. -he declares.
