New venue for Nikita Tszyu’s pro boxing debut locked down

Nikita Tszyu’s promoters have found a new venue to host the 24-year-old’s professional boxing debut.

Tim’s younger brother was originally due to face Aaron Stahl (2-0-1) at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Center tomorrow night, but torrential rain caused the venue to flood, with the event postponed for 24 hours.

The fight will now take place at Fortitude Valley Music Hall on Thursday night, with the fight card set to begin at 6:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. AEDT).

Cadet Tszyu, a former amateur champion, chose to return to the ring after completing his architecture studies and will fight in the same weight class as his older brother.

The card will also feature the IBO super welterweight title knockout fight between Australian Wade Ryan (20-9) and two-time Irish world title contender Dennis Hogan (29-4-1).

“There’s always a bit of pressure when it comes to stuff like this,” Tszyu told media at today’s press conference.

“There’s a big shadow that I have to come out of. But that kind of pressure, I live for that. It keeps me focused, it keeps me sharp, it keeps my mind clear.

“It’s fantastic. The undercard – every fight is basically a main event. I’m honored to be able to share the stage with these people.”
