New ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Trailer: Tom Cruise Gets A Warning From Goose’s Son

Tom Cruise’s iconic aviator appears to have an enemy in beloved Goose’s son Rooster in the ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ trailer released Tuesday. (Watch it below.)

“My father believed in you. I won’t make the same mistake,” Rooster (Miles Teller) says to Maverick.

Obviously, Goose’s tragic ejection to movie heaven while flying with Maverick in the original “Top Gun” hasn’t been forgotten.

It’s just one of Maverick’s ground obstacles in the sequel, according to the action-packed preview. It looks like he’s been called back to Top Gun to mentor some hotshots – even though he says he’s “not a teacher” – and lead a mission “like no pilot alive has ever seen”, says the Paramount studio description.

It’s also a chance for Cruise to flaunt his ageless morning smile and woo another generation.

“Everyone here is the best there is,” says a whippersnapper pilot. “Who the hell are they going to find to teach us?”

The pandemic-delayed “Top Gun: Maverick” is set to open May 27.
