Square Enix’s Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake has been a long time coming and the latest update is now giving some fans hope that the first two games could return as well.

Adding fuel to the fire is a new comment from reliable leaker Midori, who seems to think that this new version for Switch and several other platforms could include the entire trilogy (so it’s Dragon Quest I, II and III).

The latest video says that “the legend of Erdrick approaches” and that there is a single “HD-2D” logo, but there is no specific mention of the third game.

Erdrick is the title the hero receives in the third release and the three original versions are known as the “Erdrick Trilogy”.

The same leaker claims that fans will likely hear more about it during the “next Nintendo Direct”, and claims that the title will ship by the end of the current fiscal year.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake was originally announced in May 2021 and was apparently in development well before that – so a trilogy release could potentially explain why the project took so long to see the light of day.

Along with the reveal of this project, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii mentioned that remakes of Dragon Quest 1 and II were already in the works but that it wasn’t “official” yet.

Of course, nothing has been officially confirmed regarding a trilogy at this point, so don’t get too excited.
