New Mexico looking for ‘professional bear hugs’ for new job

On Monday, the New Mexico Department of Game and Fisheries announced it was hiring conservation officers, or “professional bear rangers.”

Although the job description may have raised a few eyebrows, the agency says interested candidates must have the ability to hike in “challenging” conditions and be brave enough to crawl through mountain dens. bear and trust their colleagues enough to keep them safe during the process.

“Not all law enforcement jobs are this glamorous, but we would love for you to join the team where you can have the experience of a lifetime,” the agency wrote in a job posting.

The agency stressed that it does not recommend crawling in bear dens, noting that the photos posted were part of a research project in northern New Mexico.

“(All) all bears were safely handled under supervision,” the agency said, warning that their officers would “talk” to anyone who decides to crawl into a bear den.

The job also involves educating the public about wildlife and management. Interested individuals should have a background in biological sciences, natural resource conservation or a related field.

“Conservation officer candidates must have a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in remote New Mexico locations,” an agency spokesperson told the stations. of FOX television. “The sense of adventure is a must!”
