New Leeds manager Jesse Marsch thinks ‘Ted Lasso’ hasn’t helped American coaches working in football – before using a quote that could have come straight from the show’s script.
Ted Lasso, an Apple TV show based on an American manager who is named boss of fictional Premier League team AFC Richmond, was one of the most popular shows of the last year and won multiple Emmys.
The Wisconsin-born coach replaced Marcelo Bielsa earlier this week[/caption]
Lasso, played by American actor Jason Sudeikis, is known to be tactically inept, but his unorthodox man-management techniques see him become a hit at the club.
It’s not something the new Leeds manager would necessarily like to be associated with, and he believes the show has created a stigma around American managers.
But the former RB Leipzig boss didn’t do himself a favor when he said something that could have come straight from Lasso himself – which he realized as soon as he said it!
Asked about being the last American manager to have a Premier League opportunity, Marsch said: “There’s probably a stigma. I’m not sure Ted Lasso helped!
“I haven’t watched the show, but I understand. People hate to hear the word football.
“I’ve been using the word football since I was a professional player. We adapt to the culture of this country.

“It challenges me to grow, develop and learn new things. All I can say is the only way I know to do things is to go all out and if you do that, you may be surprised. Sounds like Ted Lasso so I heard!
However, with Patrick Bamford still injured, Marsch could potentially do with Jamie Tartt or Dani Rojas to get the Yorkshire side drawn again…
