New Jersey fugitive accused of attempted murder arrested in Georgia

A fugitive wanted in connection with a shooting in Monmouth County earlier this year has been located and arrested near Atlanta, Georgia.

Andre Paul, 27, of Ocean Township, is charged with:

  • Attempted first degree murder
  • Two second-degree weapons offenses
  • Third degree hindering apprehension

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said that on the night of Monday, May 22, officers from the Town of Neptune Police Department responded to the Brighton Arms apartment complex on West Sylvania Avenue after receiving a report that state of gunshots.

Officers found no one was injured, but several vehicles and an apartment in the complex were struck by gunfire.

An investigation identified Paul as a suspect in the case and charges were filed against him last month.

On Thursday, members of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Paul without incident in Stone Mountain, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said in a statement:

The arrest of this individual and others over the past several months illustrates the strength of collaboration between law enforcement in Monmouth County and beyond. This arrest would not have been possible without the efforts of our local US Marshals NY/NJ Fugitive Task Force and their partners in the Southeast region.

Paul remains in custody pending extradition proceedings and an appearance in Monmouth County Superior Court.

The public is reminded that charges are charges and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
