Ola, led by Bhavish Aggarwal, is set to launch a mainstream scooter at a lower price than the S1 Pro. Ola’s electric scooter is expected to cost around one lakh or so.

Ola Electric is expected to open reservations for a new electric scooter on Monday, August 15, sources tell CNBC-TV18. The announcement is expected to be made at 2 p.m. on Independence Day.

Ola, led by Bhavish Aggarwal, is set to launch a mainstream scooter at a lower price than the S1 Pro. Ola’s electric scooter is expected to cost around one lakh or so. The company will also announce plans for expanding its portfolio of two-wheelers, battery and cell manufacturing.

In August last year, the company announced its electric scooter, the S1.

The company should also unveil its plan to launch an electric car. Ola will present plans and announce a timetable for the launch of an electric car with a range of 500 km. Earlier, Aggarwal said that Ola would build the sportiest car ever seen in the country. He had also tweeted an image of a concept car.

On July 29, Reliance Industries subsidiary Reliance New Energy, Ola Electric and Indian jeweler Rajesh Exports signed definitive agreements to build battery cells under Rs. 18,000 crore from Indian government. The government had selected these companies to build a total of 50 gigawatt hours (GWh) of battery storage capacity.
SoftBank Group-backed Ola Electric had earlier said the company planned to invest around 4,000 crore rupees ($500 million) to set up a Battery Innovation Center (BIC) in Bengaluru to develop a futuristic and localized cellular technology.

In June, reports suggested the company was in talks with several global suppliers to build a battery cell manufacturing plant in India with a capacity of up to 50 gigawatt hours.
